About the role

We are seeking a Manager of AI Software Engineering to lead the development of innovative AI solutions that are transforming healthcare. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive impactful projects that enhance patient care while guiding a team of talented engineers in a collaborative and dynamic environment.

As a Manager of AI Software Engineering, you will lead a team in designing, developing, and deploying cutting-edge AI models and secure, cloud-native applications. Leveraging technologies like Python, Java, Node.js, and React, you'll oversee the delivery of high-quality AI-driven solutions that address real-world challenges. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders, provide mentorship to engineers, and play a critical role in shaping the technical direction of AI projects. This position combines strategic leadership with technical expertise, offering the opportunity to make a lasting impact on healthcare through innovation and teamwork.

What you'll do (Essential Responsibilities)

* Partner with the Principal AI Engineer to design, develop, and deploy advanced AI solutions, including optimizing Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms, and other state-of-the-art tools.

* Play a hands-on role in solving complex technical challenges, including debugging and optimizing AI systems when needed.

* Evaluate and implement emerging AI technologies and frameworks to solve complex healthcare challenges and deliver high-impact solutions.

* Ensure AI projects align with the organization's strategic vision and technical roadmap.

* Manage the end-to-end technical delivery of AI projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.

* Actively contribute to critical areas of development or debugging, stepping in when challenges arise to ensure project success.

* Oversee project planning, resource allocation, and risk management to drive successful outcomes.

* Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining the security and integrity of AI systems.

* Monitor the progress of AI initiatives, providing updates to leadership and resolving technical or operational roadblocks.

* Mentor and coach team members, fostering technical growth, innovation, and collaboration within the AI engineering team.

* Build and maintain a high-performing team, identifying skill gaps and recommending hiring strategies to address them.

* Encourage a culture of knowledge sharing through code reviews, technical workshops, and team discussions.

* Provide career development opportunities and guidance to ensure team members reach their full potential.

* Lead by example, contributing code and demonstrating technical best practices to inspire the team.

* Systems Integration & Cloud-Native Development

* Architect and oversee the implementation of secure, scalable, and cloud-native AI systems utilizing AWS services such as SageMaker, Lambda, and API Gateway.

* Ensure seamless integration of AI solutions with existing enterprise systems and data pipelines.

* Drive best practices for cloud infrastructure optimization, cost efficiency, and performance.

* Lead the development and deployment of MLOps pipelines to automate model training, deployment, and monitoring.

* When needed, write or debug critical parts of infrastructure code to unblock the team and ensure smooth deployments.

* Act as the primary technical liaison between product managers, data scientists, and client stakeholders to ensure project goals are clearly defined and met.

* Facilitate collaboration across teams, translating business requirements into actionable technical solutions.

* Provide strategic input to product roadmaps, identifying opportunities to leverage AI for enhanced business value.

* Ensure effective communication and alignment between engineering and non-technical stakeholders.

* Stay updated on the latest advancements in AI/ML technologies, cloud computing, and healthcare industry best practices.

* Drive continuous improvement initiatives by integrating new tools, frameworks, and methodologies into development workflows.

* Promote experimentation and innovation within the team, fostering a forward-thinking approach to AI engineering.

* Represent the team and organization at conferences, workshops, and industry events, showcasing expertise and building partnerships.

* Be prepared to dive into technical details, contributing code or debugging to overcome obstacles and ensure high-quality outcomes.

* All other duties as assigned.

What you'll bring (Qualifications)

* 7+ years of experience in software development, with significant expertise in managing and delivering AI/ML projects, including hands-on technical contributions.

* Proven leadership skills with a strong ability to guide, mentor, and inspire a team while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.

* Technical proficiency in Python, Node.js, AI frameworks, and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, with experience in cloud-native development and MLOps pipelines.

* Strong architectural and systems integration skills, including experience designing secure, scalable AI systems and integrating them with enterprise applications.

* Experience with distributed computing systems, such as Spark and Kafka, and database technologies, including relational and NoSQL systems.

* Familiarity with healthcare industry standards and regulatory requirements is preferred, with a commitment to building compliant and secure solutions.

* Demonstrated success in managing the end-to-end technical delivery of complex projects, including planning, execution, and risk mitigation.

* Hands-on technical expertise, with the ability to write, debug, and optimize code when needed to overcome challenges or unblock the team.

* Experience with Agile methodologies and CI/CD practices, ensuring efficient and reliable delivery of AI solutions.

* Passion for AI and continuous learning, with a track record of staying updated on advancements in AI/ML technologies and integrating them into innovative, real-world applications.

* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business outcomes.

* Commitment to data security and ethical AI practices, ensuring compliance with company ethics, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

* Strong administrative/technical skills; Comfort working on a PC using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), IM/video conferencing (Teams & Zoom), and telephones efficiently.
